No existing players have been auto-updated to this version. Customers eager for a feature or fix that is only available in this version may manually update via the Studio Players JSON Editor or the Player Management API.

Features

Ad pause, resume and skip events for analytics plugins

The player now reports when a viewer pauses, resumes or skips an ad, so analytics plugins can track these events like any other player event.

• ad_pause is sent once each time an ad is paused, including when an ad click-through opens and pauses the ad.
• ad_resume is sent when a paused ad plays again.
• ad_skip is sent when the viewer skips an ad. It carries the same ad details as ad_complete, with ads_ad_skipped set to 1.

The events are available with the IMA3, IMA DAI, SSAI and FreeWheel ad integrations, and carry the current ad's details (ad index, pod index, title, duration and so on) alongside the usual video details. To track them with the Google Tag Manager or Google Analytics plugin, add them to eventsToTrack:

The new events are not sent to Brightcove Analytics, so Brightcove reporting is unchanged.

Ad dimensions in the Google Tag Manager plugin

The ad_begin, ad_complete, ad_pause, ad_resume and ad_skip events now push the common video dimensions to the GTM dataLayer, along with these ad dimensions:

• bcvideo_ad_index, bcvideo_ad_pod_index, bcvideo_ad_title, bcvideo_ad_duration, bcvideo_ad_creative_id, bcvideo_ad_isci, bcvideo_ad_system, bcvideo_ad_advertiser, bcvideo_ad_deal_id, bcvideo_ad_content_type and bcvideo_ad_skip_time_offset.
• On ad_complete and ad_skip only: bcvideo_ad_skipped, bcvideo_ad_interaction, bcvideo_ad_play_duration and bcvideo_ad_audible_duration.

Fixes

• [Google Tag Manager] Fix an issue where events without a built-in dimension list, such as ad_begin, ad_complete and video_resumed, were pushed to the dataLayer with no custom dimensions. They now carry the common video dimensions.
• [Google Tag Manager] Fix an issue where the plugin documentation and the sample GTM container referred to ad_start and ad_end events, which Brightcove Player 7 does not send. The sample container's Ad Start and Ad End triggers now match ad_mode_begin and ad_mode_complete.
